Dr Hayley Cousins
Dr Cousins graduated from Leicester medical school in 2006 into a role in the British Army where she undertook her medical foundation training. Following this she moved into General Practice and has spent the last 8 years as a GP principal at her NHS GP Practice. Dr Cousins thrives on treating the patients holistically and the continuity of care general practice provides. She enjoys the whole of general practice including mental health and women’s health. When not being a GP she enjoys gardening and taking her dog, Patch, out on runs. Hayley works Tuesday and Fridays.
Dr Benjamin Allured
Dr Allured graduated from Leeds University in 1999 and went on to study Medicine at Nottingham. He completed his training in Portsmouth and has worked in Hampshire for the last 15 years as a GP and is a principle at his NHS GP practice. Dr Allured enjoys all aspects of general practice, providing holistic and individualised care. He has a particular interest in GP education and was responsible for GP training in Portsmouth and the surrounding area for a number of years. He remains a GP trainer and thoroughly enjoys teaching. In his spare time he enjoys sailing and spending time with his wife and three children. Ben works Mondays and Tuesdays and is our men’s health expert.
Dr Shu Li Tan
Dr Tan graduated from Cardiff University in 2010 and did her foundation training in Wales. She did core medical training and completed her general practice training in 2017. She is a GP principle at her NHS GP practice. She also works with the GP education team and is a GP trainer. Dr Tan enjoys all aspects of general practice, providing holistic and continuous care tailored to individual needs. In her spare time she enjoys picking up new skills and hobbies when not at work. Her current interests include gardening, painting, travelling and badminton. Shu Li works Wednesday afternoons and also carries out minor surgery as well as general GP.
Dr Jenny Vanner
Dr Vanner completed her medical degree at Southampton University back in 2009 and subsequently qualified as a GP in 2015. She works at a very busy GP practice as a Partner. “I love that in General Practice you never know what will present through the door next. I enjoy seeing every type of patient but I chose to do an extra diploma in child health and more recently have undertaken extra training to use a Dermatoscope to help diagnose skin cancers and lesions. In my spare time I have two amazing children that keep me busy and a dog! I also enjoy baking birthday cakes , exercise and more recently a bit of gardening.” Jenny works alternate Wednesdays.
Dr Sarah Gawthorpe
Dr Gawthorpe graduated from Newcastle medical school in 2002 and has worked as a GP both in the UK and abroad. In 2009 she developed a love for dermatology and has extended this interest since, working both in community dermatology and hospital dermatology for over a decade. She continues to work as part of a dermatology team in Southampton both in clinic and theatres and enjoys extending her surgical expertise. Along with dermatology she has a special interest in holistic wellness and coaching in chronic illness. When not working she enjoys sailing, walking the dog and active outdoor sports. Sarah works on Wednesday’s offering dermatology appointments and minor surgery clinics.
Dr Emily Tyrrell
Dr Tyrrell graduated from Barts and the London Medical School in 2009, completed her foundation training in Essex and then subsequently relocated to the South Coast, qualifying as a GP in 2015. She now has a portfolio career which provides a great life balance whilst maintaining her joy for working as a doctor. She continues to work locally as a salaried GP but has also worked as a menopause specialist, a subject she is passionate about along with all aspects of women’s health. She also has a great enthusiasm for dermatology and is currently extending this as a speciality by working in the local hospital department. Her other interest lies in preventative / lifestyle medicine and looking at this aspect in managing our health and wellbeing. Dr Tyrrell is also a GP appraiser and a mentor for newly qualified GPs. In her spare time Dr Tyrrell is a keen runner, loves to travel, garden and explore the outdoors, as well as spending time with her husband and two children. Emily works Thursdays and is our coil/implant fitter and minor surgery specialist.
Dr Susan Smallwood
Dr Smallwood qualified from the University of Southampton in 2004 and has worked as a GP in the Southampton and Portsmouth areas since finishing GP training. She loves the variety of General Practice and particularly enjoys looking at lifestyle interventions and women’s health. Outside of work, she is kept busy with 2 children (particularly taking them to football matches) and enjoys dog walks and drinking plenty of tea!
Dr Mark Dennison
Mark graduated from Cambridge University before completing his training on the South Coast. He has worked as a GP both in the UK and New Zealand and currently holds an NHS salaried GP post. He enjoys all aspects of primary care, especially working with young people.
He is married with 3 grown-up children and 2 dogs. He enjoys all sports and follows AFC Bournemouth around the country, and also enjoys going to live music and comedy with his wife.
Nurse Jessica Davidson
Jessica finished her post graduate diploma in nursing in 2007 from Southampton University. She started work in intensive care before moving to practice nursing in 2015, undertaking her practice nurse course at Bournemouth University. She has an interest in skin and women’s health and has joined the Coastal Team offering aesthetics, women’s health and practice nursing. In her spare time she enjoys running (including ultra marathons), going to the gym and travelling. Jessica is in clinic on Fridays.
Penny Sadler
Penny is a qualified midwife and have been practising for over 10 years, she feels privileged to have provided care for many families. She is also a level 7 trained aesthetics practitioner, after following her passion for well-being, skin-care. You will see Penny in clinic on a Tuesday.
Katie Delaney
Katie qualified as a level 3 Nutrition and Health Coach in 2021, after discovering the power of nutrition for managing her own weight and wellbeing. While she knows a lot about eating for health, Katie’s real passion is helping people to make “healthy” work for their real lives: with no judgement, no shame, and definitely as little suffering as possible!
Samira Drees
Samira is an experienced sonographer who also works at a local NHS hospital. She completed her ultrasound training at King’s College London and holds an MSc in Medical Ultrasound from the University of the West of England.
She has experience across a broad range of ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, gynaecological and pelvic, kidney and bladder, and testicular imaging.
Samira is committed to providing timely, accurate results while ensuring that every patient feels informed, comfortable and supported throughout their examination.
Outside of work, Samira enjoys travelling and spending time with her Miniature Schnauzer.
