Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What Skin Lesions can you remove?
We can assess all skin lesions for removal- typically we would remove benign (non-cancerous) growths which would include cysts, lipomas, moles and seborrheic keratosis. Some basal cell carcinomas may be suitable for removal dependant on site and size of the lesion. Larger lesions and cysts can be removed by excision (requiring stitches) or curettage. Smaller lesions such as warts and skin tags can be frozen using Cryopen.
What do you do with lesions that don’t appear benign?
We can make direct referrals to the NHS cancer pathways for lesions that appear to have features of cancer- melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma
What is Cryopen?
Cryopen is targeted freezing treatment which is suitable for a range of benign (non cancerous) skin conditions. Lesions such as skin tags, milia, cherry angiomas, verrucas, warts, seborrheic keratosis can be removed quickly and safely.
What can I expect during my appointment?
During a skin assessment our community dermatology team, will assess your lesion, create a treatment plan and explain what to expect during your minor surgery appointment. Some lesions will need stitching and for those a stitch removal appointment is required 7-14 days after.
Is Cryopen painful?
Cryopen treatment is extremely quick- just a few seconds. During this time and for a few minutes afterwards there may be some stinging.
Is there anyone Cryopen is not suitable for?
It may not be appropriate for people with conditions such as collagen and autoimmune disease, rheumatoid arthritis, individuals previously treated with dermal fillers in the treatment area, and pregnant women. If you’re not sure then please email us on info@coastal-clinic.co.uk
